Can I use the infant food bank? I’m in need of diapers and don’t have much money.
Our mission is to support Milton families in need who have young children, to assist with supplying their monthly need for diapers, formula, and baby food. In order to ensure that no one takes advantage of our services, potential clients must do a formal intake with the Salvation Army Family Services. Please call 905-875-1022 to set up an appointment.
Once intake is complete, we look forward to supporting you and your child/children.
What are your hours?
We are open:
- Mondays 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Tuesdays 1:00pm – 7:00pm
- Wednesdays 1:00pm – 4:00pm
- Thursdays 9:00am – 3:00pm
- Saturday 9:00am – 12:00pm
I work and/or don’t have a car during your office hours. What can I do?
Please call Laura Gilbert at 905-876-1244 ext. 120 for more information.
How many languages do you speak? My English is poor.
We have staff at MCRC who speak many languages. Please call ahead if you require an interpreter.
What is the IFB most in need of? I’m going out shopping and would like to buy something to donate.
We are in need of large size diapers 4, 5, and 6’s. Enfamil formula is also needed.
Is the IFB a registered charity? Will I get a charitable tax receipt for my contribution?
Yes, we are a registered charity and all monetary and in-kind donations are eligible for a tax receipt.
I have some opened packs of diapers in a size that my child has grown out of. Do you take open packs of diapers?
Yes we do! Unfortunately, we can’t accept newborn or size 1 open packs of diapers due to a surplus in those sizes and storage limitations.
Can I donate open food?
No, we can only take non-expired unopened baby food.
Where and when can I donate baby food? Is it only during IFB office hours at the Milton Community Resource Centre?
You can donate anytime at MCRC during their opening hours 8am to 5pm daily. There is a bin in the front lobby.
Additionally, you can donate at any red Salvation Army bin at grocery stores in and around town. The Salvation Army is our partner, and drops baby items collected to us.
Do you accept gently used baby items?
No, unfortunately we can’t accept gently used baby items due to storage and space restrictions. We are limited in the amount of new non-food baby related items we can take as well for the same reason.
Is an Infant Food Bank really needed in Milton?
Milton is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. However, between 2006 and 2013 the Town of Milton experienced the greatest increase in low income families. The number of low income families grew by 166% compared to 35.7% for all families in Halton. Taken from Community Lens #112 May 2016
The Infant Food Bank serves a diverse group of people from single moms, to new Canadians, to those who have recently lost jobs.
Can I volunteer with the Infant Food Bank? Can my child volunteer with the Infant Food Bank? I’d really like to show my child what giving back to the community is like.
MCRC values our volunteers! However, you must be at least 16 years old to volunteer in the Infant Food Bank and opportunities are limited. We cannot do what we do for Milton families without community support including yours. We encourage individuals, families, groups, students and more to hold food drives on behalf of the IFB. We supply bins, signage and information sheets for these events, and can help with pick up.
High school students can earn up to four hours of volunteer time by completing a food drive. Please call Heather Bonser for more information, at heather.bonser@mcrc.on.ca
